Children

I work with children as young as 1 year old all the way up to adults of any age. They can be your typical preschooler, a university student or working adult. They can also have (diagnosed or not!) conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Down Syndrome, anxiety difficulties, Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), etc.

Unclear Speech

  • saying “tatt” instead of “cat”, “thand” instead of “sand”, “pit” instead of “fish”, “wun" instead of "run"
  • when people (friends, teachers, parents) cannot understand what your child says

Late Talking

  • if your child is not yet talking, or not talking as much as same age children

Poor Language Skills

  • difficulty following instructions, whether at home or in class
  • speaking in single words or very short sentences – less than same-age peers
  • jumbling word order in sentences
  • very poor vocabulary, e.g. using vague words like “do like this”, “want that one”
  • cannot understand what is being read
  • struggling to re-tell events or explain what happened to them
  • struggling academically

Poor Communication Skills

  • not able to express basic needs appropriately, such as screaming, tantrumming, or snatching things
  • when others cannot understand your child because he/she doesn’t give details, or suddenly changes topic
  • when friendships or relationships are difficult because your child:
    • struggles to understand jokes
    • is too straightforward
    • is being sarcastic at the wrong moment.
